FIRE PREVENTION
DEPARTMENT OF CODE ENFORCEMENT

• The Highland Park Bureau of Fire Prevention is the local enforcing agency for the New Jersey State Uniform Fire Code. This code applies to all structures within the borough except detached one and two owner occupied homes.
• The Bureau of Fire Prevention is comprised of a Fire Official, Fire Inspectors and clerical help.
• Life Hazard Uses are inspected not any less often than specified in the New Jersey State Uniform Fire Code.
• Non Life Hazard businesses and/or structures are inspected annually.
• Common areas in Multi-family (over three dwelling units) residential buildings are inspected annually.
• A smoke detector certificate is required prior to closing whenever a single or two family home is sold. Applications and fees are handled through the Fire Prevention Office at 732-777-6013.
