OFFICE OF RECREATION Department
of Community Services
Highland
Park Senior / Youth Recreation Center What's New? The Office of Recreation invites residents of all ages to take part in the various activities that we have planned for the year. We have our popular programs that continue to get bigger and better such as our commitment to Youth Sports and fantastic Summer Camp. Along with the favorites, Recreation is looking towards the future in providing more variety in programs, both sports-oriented as well as activities that all ages can enjoy.
The Office of Recreation falls underneath the Department of Community Services, which includes the Office on Aging. The combination of these two offices under one wing, will give residents more efficiency in the services that the Department, more specifically Recreation, will provide. Since the merger into this one department unites these two offices, the Office on Recreation will be better prepared to serve not only our youth, but also the adult population in Highland Park .
As the programs you've come to know expand and improve, residents can expect to see new programs being created. One example of this is our brand new Chess Club that meets Thursday night. This passive activity, which is free for all ages to take pleasure in, not only challenges the mind, but offers a wonderful opportunity as a social gathering for those who have been playing 20 years or just 20 minutes.
We also can't forget programs being revamped in order to not only use our resources to the fullest, but for your enjoyment. Our Teen Night program Friday nights at the Senior/Youth Recreation Center, welcome all those from 7 th grade to 12 th grade. These nights are centered around a theme that is consistent with what is going on in the world of popular culture. There are activities, games, a movie each week and refreshments.
Our Fishing Derby taking place in June at Donaldson Park and celebrates National Fishing Week. This fantastic event gives families the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor activity and gets you ready for the approaching summer months.
Whether it be for the young, the young at heart, or the adult in you, you'll soon be able to fulfill those needs through Recreation in Highland Park . Our already created programs and future events are sure to meet your needs whether it be physically, mentally or socially. If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to let us know.
