Councilman
Jeffrey Morris is a lifelong resident of Highland Park . Since 1986
Jeff has been actively involved in many areas of emergency service in
the Borough. He's the fourth generation of a long line of volunteers
in his family to serve in the Borough Fire Department. He has also served
as Fire Chief and is currently the President of the Volunteer Fire Department.
Jeff chairs the Public Safety Committee, which includes the Fire Department,
First Aid Squad, Police Department and Office of Emergency Management.
He also serves as second chair of the Finance Committee, as well as
third chair on the Health and Welfare Committee.
Jeff has also
attended numerous classes on Counter-Terrorism and Response through
the New Jersey State Department of Counter-Terrorism and Washington
D.C Highland Park School System “School Crisis Response Team” where
he has volunteered since 2003. He is a certified New Jersey State Level
II Fire Instructor and certified State Fire Inspector.
He has received
extensive Terrorism Training within the past five years, though The
Center of Domestic Preparedness in Anniston Alabama , Terrorist Bombing
Response Training through New Mexico Tech, and Nuclear and Radiological
Response Training from the Bechtel Nevada and the U.S. Department of
Energy. Throughout his nineteen-year career at the Middlesex County
Department of Corrections he was member of the Middlesex County Hostage
Recovery Team. He authored the facilities Emergency Response Plan, and
was successful in assisting in securing a Homeland Security Grant in
2004 for a half a million dollars
Since June
of 2001, he has served as the Boroughs Emergency Management Coordinator
and has diligently worked on preparing the Borough for all types of
Emergencies; “Natural”, “Manmade” or “Technological”. Jeff is currently
studying for his certification as an “Emergency Management Professional”
through the Federal Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg , Maryland
.
Since 1985,
Jeff is a County Correction Officer, at the Middlesex County Department
of Corrections in North Brunswick . In addition, he is a member of the
facilities Special Operations Group and is a Senior Training Officer;
he's also responsible for all facets of Fire Safety Training and Inspection
at the Correctional Facility.

Morris is married to his wife Venus they have two children.
