Before you begin
Your project may require zoning approval as well as construction permits. If that is the case, zoning approval must be obtained prior to construction permits being issued.
Failure to comply will result in fines.
When do I need zoning approval? Some examples include but are not limited to:
Residential
- Fences – New and replacements
- Additions
- Deck/Patio/Porch
- Sidewalks/Driveways
- Air Conditioning Units
- Pool/Hot tub
- Sheds/Gazebos
- Steps Repair/Replacement
- Generators
- Finished Basements/Attics
- Solar Panels
Business
- Sign Installation
- Change of Use
- New Business Zoning Permit
- Parking lot repairs/changes
- Zoning Application
If you would like to verify zoning requirements please contact our zoning officer, Mike Mullin.
Please Note:
-
The borough does not have a copy of your property survey. The majority of times the property survey is attached to the deed of the property.
-
Zoning Applications should be completed and submitted to the code enforcement office together with a copy of your property survey highlighting where the work is being done or structure/appliance is being placed. The appropriate application fee must also be provided with the application.
All checks are payable to the Borough of Highland Park.
