The Department of Public Works is responsible for numerous tasks in and around Highland Park. These duties include:
- Sanitation collection
- Recycling collection
- Street maintenance
- Street sign maintenance
- Utility maintenance
- Borough buildings and grounds maintenance

- Fleet maintenance
Sanitation Collection
The Borough of Highland Park collects regular household garbage once a week. Businesses receive twice per week collection. Schedules are as follows:
- North Side: Monday
- South Side: Friday
- Triangle Area: Monday
- Business District: Monday & Friday
Please note that a majority of the Borough has been transitioned to an Automated Garbage Collection system.
