The Department provides an accessible system of services to all residents of Highland Park as well as seniors to help maintain their independence at home.
Advocacy: The Department serves as an advocate and referral service to all residents of Highland Park that may qualify for entitlement programs such as PAAD, Home Energy Assistance, Homestead Benefit & Property Tax Reimbursement, Social Security, Medicare, Senior Housing, Home Health Care, etc.
SHIP: State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Our Social worker is available to assist seniors in all Medicare related issues and concerns. Counseling is also available on Medicaid and other health-care assistance programs.

Benefits & Entitlements
The Outreach Program is dedicated to helping this population attain the benefits and entitlements offered to them by local, county, state, and federal programs. This includes benefits such as meals, housing options, home energy, immigration, transportation, social security, medicare, food stamps, NJ Family Care, lifeline, utility assistance, SSI, PAAD and home care.
Caregiver Information & Home Visits
Caregiver information is available to those caring for an elder/disabled friend or relative. our services are free and confidential. Home visits are available for the frail, disabled, and homebound.
Energy Assistance
Another reminder that fall and winter is upon us this is the time to apply for energy assistance. LIHEP applications are accepted from October 1 through April 30/ The sooner you apply the better.
Food Pantry
The Highland Park Community Food Pantry is a volunteer managed activity under authority of the Borough of Highland Park Department of Social Services. We assist people who need food at the Highland Park Community Center at 220 South Sixth Avenue on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. and 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays of those weeks from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
For food emergencies only (when the food pantry is not open) call 732-819-0052 weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and Noon, and ask for Nicole. Weekends, call 908-410-7618.
Medicare Part B
General enrollment period for Medicare Part B is January 1 through March 31.
