The Borough's Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Project targets intersection safety and access improvements in the neighborhoods surrounding the Borough's public schools. The project design and construction costs are funded by the federal government and administered through the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). Phase I of the project was awarded in 2016 and Phase II was awarded in 2018.
Phase I and II preliminary engineering plans were presented at Public Information Centers held on February 3, 2022 and November 10, 2022. The drawings were revised based on the input received at the meetings and updated designs were presented at a combined Public Information Center for both phases of the project on June 17, 2024.
The updated plans are posted below under each project heading. If you would like to submit questions or comments, please contact Teri Jover, Borough Administrator, by phone at 732-819-3789 or email at tjover@hpboro.com or by mail at 221 So. 5th Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904 by Monday, July 1, 2024. After the comment period ends, the plans will be revised and submitted to the Borough and NJDOT for review and final comment. Final engineering and construction documents will be complete by the Fall 2024 and construction is targeted for Spring/Summer 2025.
