Mask Mandate, Effective 12/31/21

As of December 31, 2021, the Borough of Highland Park has put in place a mask mandate for all indoor public spaces, including business establishments. The mandate is in effect through Jan. 31, 2022; however, the Mayor & Borough Council may opt to keep it in place should the COVID-19 case numbers warrant continuation.

Businesses will be responsible for ensuring that their employees and customers adhere to the policy. The Department of Code Enforcement will be working with businesses to carry out the mandate and will respond to repeated complaints of non-compliance by issuing warnings, followed up by fines, if no corrective action is taken by the business.

Residents are asked to be patient with our local businesses and fellow community members as the mask mandate is still new and it will take a few days for people to adapt. Residents can report concerns directly to the Department of Code Enforcement by using the Report a Concern portal.

COVID-19 Update from the Mayor - 12/15/2021

COVID-19 cases are increasing, both in New Jersey and Highland Park. These trends are of concern, especially as we head into the winter months where there are fewer options for gathering outdoors. As such, we thought it a good time to remind residents of available COVID-19 testing facilities and vaccination/booster resources.

COVID-19 Testing

In-town COVID-19 PCR testing through Ridgewood Labs is available at the Highland Park Community Center, 220 So. 6th Avenue. Participants with and without insurance can get tested and minors are eligible to be tested provided they have a parent or guardian present. Register at testnj.online. The schedule is as follows:

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays - 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Sundays - 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The in-town testing center WILL be open on Fri. 12/24 and Sun. 12/26.

Middlesex County also provides free testing by appointment for county residents. Click here for details.

Getting vaccinated and boosted is critical to protecting ourselves, our families and our community. There are resources out there to make it easier to find an appointment. See below:

COVID-19 Update from the Mayor - 07/29/2021

Dear Neighbors

Those of you who have visited a Borough building since our reopening have seen that we are still requiring masks indoors regardless of vaccination status. It was our hope to consider relaxing these requirements once the community met the 70% vaccination mark.

Thank you to each of you who have been vaccinated. You have demonstrated your love and caring for your family members, friends and our neighbors.

However, 30% of our population over the age of 18 remains unvaccinated. This ongoing pandemic has prompted recent guidance from the CDC encouraging mask wearing in indoor settings in areas with 'substantial' transmission rates - like Middlesex County. Therefore, we are continuing our mask requirement for the time being.

COVID-19 Update from the Mayor - 07/19/2021

Dear Neighbors

Highland Park continues to show slow, but steady progress towards complete vaccination against the Covid-19 virus and the Delta variant. As of July 12th, 72% of our population aged 18+ has completed their vaccinations with another 9% having at least one shot. This brings the total Highland Park adult population with at least one vaccination to 81%.

I want to give a big shout-out to our seniors aged 65+. They have heeded the call to protect themselves, their neighbors and their families. I am proud to announce that the State reports 98% of our senior population has had at least their first vaccine! 89% of our seniors have had both shots; another 9% have had their first shot and are on their way to completing the process.

This is good news. Now, let’s work to get our remaining eligible residents to protect themselves with the Covid-19 vaccine. Visit the County Covid-19.
