About every four years, PSE&G, through its tree service contractors, comes into Highland Park to prune trees.  PSE&G is required by law to give Highland Park notice that it is coming.   The documents that PSE&G sent in October 2021 giving notice that they were coming in 2022 can be found here.   The notice covers all of 2022 and includes important information about the process.

PSE&G’s tree service contractors are required to follow rules that are set by PSE&G and that are required to conform to federal, state and industry standards.  These rules tell the contractors how much clearance there needs to be between a tree and the electric wires:  above, below, and on each side.

Utility pruning focuses on the safety and reliability of the electrical grid, but attention is also given to the health of each tree pruned.  PSE&G calls this process vegetation management and explains its approach on its website:  https://nj.pseg.com/safetyandreliability/reliability/treetrimming

Members of STAC and other residents follow closely the work done by PSE&G’s tree service contractors.  If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to STAC at Melanie McDermott at melanie.mcdermott@rutgers.edu  or Rosie Baruh at rbaruh@yahoo.com so that we can follow up.
